Description

San Emigdio, like its neighbor Brush Mountain, is in a lovely forested area that overlooks the Mount Pinos area peaks to the south. Route 1 starts from Mil Potrero Highway, up an old road to the ridge connecting the two peaks. Route 2 starts from Marion Campground where Route 1 to Brush begins and traverses the ridge for a gentler hike.

Driving route

Go north on I-5 to the Frazier Park exit.
Go west 7.2 miles past Frazier Park and on to Lake of the Woods.
Keep straight here and go 5.3 miles farther to the junction with Mil Potrero Road. Turn right. Note odometer and go as follows:
At 8.3 miles, highway junction and a ranger station at Apache Saddle. This is the turnoff for Cerro Noroeste. Go straight.
At 8.5 miles, dirt road 9N34 on the right. Turn right.
Drive up this road 3.3 miles to a road fork and turn-around. Park here. There is room for about five cars.

Hiking route

Hike north up the gentle slope about 250 yards to the summit.

Driving route

See the Brush Mountain guide. Drive into the campground as directed.

Hiking route

From the east side of Marion Campground, hike along a 4WD road to where it meets 9N34.
Turn left and hike up to the parking spot for Route 1.
Continue to the summit as in Route 1.
