Become a Member!

The Hundred Peaks Section leads hikes to the most beautiful summits in Southern California every week. Everyone is welcome to participate in our outings. The only cost is to share gas money and help pay for an occasional wilderness permit. While you do not need to be an HPS member to participate, we encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter, The Lookout, and join the section.

There are three requirements to become a member and to keep your membership current.

Subscribe to the HPS newsletter, “The Lookout”,
Maintain a current membership in the Sierra Club,
Climb at least 25 peaks on the current HPS peak list.

There is no membership fee, though you must keep your newsletter subscription and Sierra Club membership current to continue as a member in good standing.

You are welcome to subscribe to “The Lookout” while still working to complete the other requirements.

You can subscribe to “The Lookout” for $9 per year. Subscriptions support HPS activities, including the hikes you enjoy. You can subscribe without joining HPS.

Membership benefits include:

Achievement awards such as for climbing 100 Peaks, 200 Peaks and completing the list. Your name will be included in the historical list HPS Emblems, among the pioneers of Southern California climbing.
The opportunity to lead trips for the Section.
Have your voice heard about the future of the Section by voting or running for a leadership position.
Receive discounts on some HPS functions.

Step 1: Subscribe to the newsletter, “The Lookout”

Initiate your request for a subscription to the “The Lookout” using the web link below:

The form will ask you whether you are requesting a new subscription, a subscription and membership, or a subscription renewal. Some personal information will be collected including email address since the newsletter link is sent by email.

Once the form is filled out, payment can be made either by PayPal at the following link:

The Lookout is delivered electronically 6 times per year.

Basic subscription: $9 for 1 year, $17 for 2 years, $24 for 3 years.

Sustaining subscription (helps to cover other HPS expenses): $20 for 1 year, $39 for 2 years, $57 for 3 years. Lifetime subscription: $500

HPS also welcomes donations to cover website, programs and other expenses that member dues do not cover. These donations are not tax-deductible. Donation amounts other than the above amounts can be sent via PayPal.

Step 2: Join the Sierra Club

You must be a Sierra Club member to belong to HPS. If you aren’t already a Club member, you can join the Sierra Club online for $15.

Step 3: Climb 25 Peaks on the Current HPS Peak List

Attained the summit of at least 25 peaks on the current HPS Peak List. Summits can be achieved by any means including hiking, driving, biking, etc. The only requirement is that you get to the top of the peak (current rules specify that climbing summit blocks is optional).

Peaks can be done at any time and do not have to be done on an official HPS hike.

Create a list of peaks with dates climbed (provides dates to the best of your recollection). Climbs can also be entered in peakbagger.com.

Step 4: Submitting Your Request for Membership

Email your peaks list along with your Sierra Club membership number to the membership chair at hundredpeaksmembership@gmail.com.

The Membership Chair will check your newsletter subscription status and your peak list to verify that all requirements have been met. You will be notified of any missing requirements.

Upon acceptance, your name will be placed on the membership list. If you are a new subscriber you will also start receiving an email link to “The Lookout” starting with the next issue.

Household Memberships

Members living at the same address qualify for a household membership which covers all household members. You can request a household membership by emailing the membership chair at hundredpeaksmembership@gmail.com and identifying each household member to be covered. Please specify one person as the primary household member. Only one newsletter subscription is required per household, though each member must also be a Sierra Club member and have submitted a list of 25 peaks climbed. The Sierra Club also has a household membership you can take advantage of.

Changing Personal Information

Personal information changes, such as email address, address and phone number, can be made by emailing the Membership Chair at hundredpeaksmembership@gmail.com
