Current Conditions

Current Conditions, Closures and Suspensions

At the November 12, 2024 meeting the Management Committee took the following action: 
  • 25G Galena Peak was unsuspended and a new Route 2 via the Vivian Creek Trail was added.Route 1 was removed due to unsafe conditions.
  • 07C San Guillermo Mountain a new Route 2  was added.
  • 25J Goodykuntz Peak a new Route 4 was added.
As a result of two major fires in the Angeles and Cleveland National Forests, the following HPS Peaks are now inside Forest Closure areas and are suspended:

These are the current peak closures and known trail conditions as of 12/1/25:

Closures due to the Line Fire:

  • Mill Peak (22A)
  • Keller Peak LO (22B)
  • Slide Peak (22C)
  • Constance Peak (24A)

Closure order expired 9-30-25, renewal status unclear.

The Eaton Fire Closure in effect through December 31, 2025. Closure Order 05-01-25-09. The following peaks are suspended:

  • Mount Markham
  • Mount Lowe
  • Mount Deception
  • Mount Disappointmrnt
  • San Gabriel Peak
  • Occidental Peak
  • Mount Wilson is accessible from Chantry Flat via the Upper and Lower Winter Creek trails, but all other routes are closed

Long term peak suspensions:

  • Heald Peak – due to poodle dog
  • Hines Peak – due to deteriorating and unsafe conditions on the knife edge ridge

Other information;

  • The Fairview Fire closure has been lifted; Rouse Hill was unsuspended 5-25
  • Matilija Road access to Old Man Mountain and Monte Arido recently hiked 10-25 and found to be severely washed out in several places. Previously bikeable, it is now more like a creekbed than a road.
  • The Bridge Fire Closure has been lifted
  • The Airport Fire Closure has been lifted 

Temporary road and access issues: 

  • Randsburg Road is open
